The thesis of this
book is that a high-carb, low-fat diet can lead to the development of
Alzheimer's. For years the scientific and medical community has been
recommending a high carb diet, but perhaps this is missing the point
that the body, and particularly the brain, needs fat. The medical
profession has been so obsessed with cholesterol that statins are
routinely prescribed. These drugs are designed to reduce cholesterol,
but what if cholesterol isn’t the culprit?
The author presents
a succinct summary of the scientific data on nutrition and the
relationship with brain function. I recommend reading this if you’re
concerned about your probability of developing Alzheimer's or that of
a loved one. The section is written in easy to understand language.
You don’t have to be a scientist to understand it.
In addition to the
scientific information, the book provides strategies for developing a
high-fat diet, including foods to include, foods to avoid, and even
how to deal with restaurant meals. It also includes cooking
recommendations.
I highly recommend
this book. The research is comprehensive. The suggestions for diet
are reasonable, and the ideas provide a counterbalance to the fear of
cholesterol and fat.
I received this book
